Aidan Hutchinson: ‘No Longer The Same Old Lions’

Aidan Hutchinson, a Michigan native was never a Detroit Lions fan growing up but was well aware of the phrase, Same Old Lions. After the major win vs. the Minnesota Vikings, Hutchinson spoke to reporters saying these Lions are different.

“The chemistry we’ve got right now is kind of unmatched. We’re so complimentary right now offensively and defensively and we never flinch at the end. It’s no longer the Same Old Lions. We’ve overcome that. Now we’re on our way to becoming a really good football team.”

Why it matters: Even though Hutchinson isn’t old enough to remember the last time the Lions played in the playoffs he’s familiar with the woes of his hometown team. The Lions have come springing back from an incredibly disappointing first half of the season to possibly become playoff contenders. Many Lions players and NFL elite alike are done with the limiting Same Old Lions phrase.

  • Hall of Famer Michael Strahan said this about the Lions on Fox’s postgame show, “They’re like that sleeper (team). I wouldn’t want to play the Lions. They’re the real deal.”
  • Taylor Decker was quoted after the heartbreaking loss to the Bills saying, “It’s not the [expletive] Same Old Lions anymore!”
  • NFL Network’s Kyle Brandt said, “I think the Lions are a top-eight NFL team right now, I think they’re the third-best team in the NFC. I think they’re behind Philadelphia and San Francisco, I think they would beat Dallas right now if they played.”
