D’Andre Swift Disheartened With Usage In 2022 Season

D’Andre Swift spoke to reporters from the Detroit Free Press about how frustrated he is with his injuries and their role in his usage for the Detroit Lions. The Detroit Lions running back D’Andre Swift has missed three games and played a limited role in other games.

Why it matters: The Lions were hoping that Swift could get healthy and emerge as a star running back in the 2022 season. This has not been the case as Swift finds it hard to stay off the injured list and this has caused him to miss many opportunities.

  • Duce Staley (Lions running back coach) challenged Swift to take additional steps toward the pass-catcher position and playing through his injuries in the 2022 season, particularly because of his ability to diagnose coverages.
  • Swift played 73% of the snaps up to week 12.

What Did D’Andre Swift Tell Reporters?

“It’s tough,” Swift told the Free Press. “But where I’m at right now is like, I can’t miss no games. I’ve missed more than enough time, so I’m at the mindset now where I’m going to just keep pushing through and just keep being able to do what I can for my teammates, try to win games. And trying to be a part of something special here, so that includes me pushing through and doing whatever I can.”

D’Andre Swift wants to help wherever he can.

“I’m in a tough spot because I know I’m not where I want to be physically with the injuries and everything like that, so it’s kind of, it is what it is with the injuries,” Swift said. “But as far as my role, I’m just out there trying to contribute anyway possible. Ultimately, I’m trying to win and me being out there one play, 15 plays, whatever it may be, I feel like I can affect the game a little bit.”

Swift says playing injured is better than being on the sidelines:

“It’s better than being on the sideline, not dressed up. And, whatever role they had for me, I’m going to embrace it, do it to the best of my ability, focus on the little details and stuff like that,” said Swift. … “Still trying to be myself with what’s going on.”
